The Miami HEAT have officially named Gale Nelson as the team’s new public address announcer beginning with the 2026-27 NBA season. Nelson succeeds longtime announcer Michael Baiamonte, who retired after an incredible 35 years behind the microphone.

Nelson becomes only the third public address announcer in franchise history, stepping into one of the most recognizable voices and roles inside the Kaseya Center.

Gale Nelson Will Make His HEAT Debut on October 6

HEAT Nation will get its first opportunity to hear Nelson behind the microphone during the Red, White and Pink Game on October 6, 2026. The annual team scrimmage will serve as his official debut and give fans an early look at the energy, personality and style he will bring to the arena.

Replacing Baiamonte will not be an easy task. His voice became a major part of the Miami HEAT experience throughout the franchise’s championship years and many of its most memorable moments. Nelson will now have an opportunity to respect that tradition while creating his own identity with HEAT Nation.

“I look forward to continuing the legacy that Michael Baiamonte left at the HEAT and creating my own journey with the organization,” Nelson said. “I am humbled and excited for HEAT Nation to see who Gale is and showcase my personality and style that I will bring to the microphone this season.”

A Respected Miami Community Leader

Nelson enters the position with an extensive background in leadership and service. He currently serves as President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami and the Florida Keys, where he has helped expand the organization’s mentoring and fundraising programs since joining in 2006.

With more than 30 years of nonprofit leadership experience, Nelson helped guide the organization to Agency of the Year honors in 2021. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami and the Florida Keys also earned four consecutive National Pinnacle Awards from 2019 through 2022 under his leadership.

That deep connection to the South Florida community makes Nelson an especially meaningful addition to the HEAT organization. His new position will allow fans to experience another side of a leader who has already spent years making a difference throughout the region.

The HEAT Found the Voice They Were Looking For

Miami HEAT Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Michael McCullough said Nelson’s voice and delivery immediately stood out during the selection process.

“Gale brings a unique style and his very distinctive voice to the PA announcer position,” McCullough said. “We were intrigued right from the start when we heard Gale, and we knew he could be exactly what we were looking for.”

Fans received an early preview of Nelson’s announcing ability during Miami HEAT Media Day, where he recorded player introductions for the upcoming season. The available video and audio offer HEAT Nation its first taste of how the team’s new era will sound.

Beginning a New Chapter in HEAT History

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Nelson earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in corporate finance from the University of Toledo. He later received a Master of Science in management and administration of educational programs from Nova Southeastern University.

The public address announcer plays an important part in establishing the energy of every home game. From player introductions to unforgettable late-game moments, the arena’s voice helps shape the fan experience and becomes connected to the biggest memories in team history.

As the Miami HEAT prepare for the 2026-27 season, Gale Nelson will begin the challenging but exciting task of following one of the franchise’s most recognizable figures. His leadership experience, connection to Miami and distinctive voice give him the opportunity to create a new sound for the next chapter of HEAT basketball.
